What's okay to post on WritingNepal, and what isn't. For how we expect people to treat each other, see our Code of Conduct instead — this page is about the content itself.

What belongs here

  • Your own original writing — fiction, poetry, essays, articles, book excerpts you have the rights to.
  • Honest, constructive reviews and comments on other people's writing.
  • Book listings for books you've actually written, published, or are recommending in good faith.

What isn't allowed

  • Plagiarism: posting someone else's writing as your own. If you're quoting or referencing another writer's work, say so.
  • AI-written work: posting writing produced by AI tools such as ChatGPT as your own. Using help to check spelling or find ideas is fine, but the writing must be yours. AI-written work can't earn Akshar rewards or win writing challenges or competitions, and may be removed. We may look at how a Catch was written (how much was typed, how much pasted, how long it took).
  • Copyright infringement: uploading text, images, or excerpts you don't hold the rights to, beyond fair quotation.
  • Illegal content: anything that breaks Nepali law, including content that incites violence or facilitates illegal activity.
  • Graphic content without warning: explicit violence or sexual content should be clearly labeled if posted at all — check the Catch's content settings.
  • Misleading paid Catches: a paid Catch's preview shouldn't misrepresent what's actually behind the paywall.
  • Spam or fake engagement: mass-posting, vote/like manipulation, or fake accounts to inflate Akshar, follower counts, or Praise.

Paid content specifically

If you're publishing a paid Catch, the free preview needs to genuinely represent the writing behind it — readers should know roughly what they're paying to unlock, not be misled into paying for something else entirely.

Glimpses (video posts)

Glimpses are short videos — a quick book review, a reading, talking about what you're writing, anything bookish. They should stay on-topic for a literary platform: literature, books, writing, and the people and process behind them. The same rules above apply here too, plus a couple specific to video:

  • Keep it related to books, writing, or reading — Glimpses aren't a general video-sharing feed.
  • No graphic violence, sexual content, harassment, or anything illegal under Nepali law — same line as everywhere else on the site, just for video instead of text.
  • Only post video you actually have the rights to — your own recording, or footage you're licensed to use.

A Glimpse that doesn't fit can be removed without warning — video moderation happens after something's already visible to other readers, unlike text which can be reviewed before it spreads, so we act quickly once something's flagged.

How moderation works

Content that breaks these rules can be removed, and repeated violations can lead to account restrictions. We look at context and intent, not just keywords — a difficult topic handled thoughtfully in fiction isn't the same as content that exists purely to violate these rules.
