This page covers Akshar (अक्षर) and your WN Digital Card specifically. It works alongside — not instead of — our main Terms of Use, which still applies to everything else on WritingNepal.
What Akshar is — and what it isn't
Akshar is a loyalty and rewards program. It is not money, currency, a deposit, a security, a gift card, a prepaid financial product, or any kind of bank or credit product — regardless of how the WN Digital Card looks or what it's called anywhere on the site. The card design (card number, "Card Holder," "Valid Thru") is a visual, playful presentation of your rewards balance, the same way an airline shows a "miles" balance on a card-shaped screen. It does not make Akshar a payment card, and using it does not create any banking, deposit-taking, or e-money relationship between you and WritingNepal.
Specifically, Akshar:
- Has no cash value and cannot be withdrawn, cashed out, exchanged for money, or transferred to a bank account, mobile wallet, or any other person or account.
- Is not transferable between WritingNepal users under any circumstances.
- Earns no interest and is not held in any kind of account on your behalf outside of WritingNepal's own internal records.
- Can only be used within WritingNepal, for the specific things listed below — nothing else.
If any part of Nepali law ever treats a rewards program like this one as a regulated financial product regardless of how it's described, we'll adjust the program (including possibly suspending redemption or issuance) to stay compliant, and will post any such change on the Blog.
How you earn Akshar
Akshar is awarded automatically for activity on the site — daily visits, writing Catches, book reviews, being followed, and similar actions, at rates shown on your Digital Card page. We can change what earns Akshar, how much, or remove ways of earning it entirely, at any time and without advance notice — the rates shown are current, not guaranteed to stay the same. Akshar already sitting in your balance when a rate changes is not affected retroactively.
We may withhold or reverse Akshar earned through fraud, abuse, fake accounts, automated activity, or any attempt to exploit the reward system rather than genuinely use the site. This includes Akshar already spent — we may deduct the equivalent from your balance or restrict your account.
Purchased Akshar (top-ups)
You can also buy Akshar directly with real money via eSewa, Khalti, or supported mobile wallets, at the Top up page. This is the one place real money is actually involved with Akshar.
- Payments are processed by eSewa/Khalti/your wallet provider directly — WritingNepal never sees or stores your card or wallet credentials.
- Once a top-up succeeds and Akshar is added to your balance, it's treated the same as earned Akshar from that point on — same rules, same non-transferability, no cash-out.
- If a top-up payment fails or is reversed by your payment provider after Akshar was already credited, we may deduct the corresponding Akshar from your balance, including into negative territory that has to be resolved before further top-ups or redemptions.
- Refunds for a top-up are handled case by case — contact us here if a payment went wrong. We don't guarantee refunds once Akshar from a top-up has already been spent.
How you can use Akshar
- Book credit — redeem any amount at checkout in the store, at the rate shown on your Digital Card (currently 100 Akshar = Rs 1).
- Unlocking a paid Catch (Beta) — spend Akshar instead of cash to unlock a writer's paid Catch. This feature is Beta and its terms, availability, or exchange rate may change or be discontinued.
We may add or remove ways to redeem Akshar at any time.
Writers & Akshar-funded unlocks
When someone unlocks your paid Catch using Akshar they purchased with real money, you're paid a share of that real money, same as a direct cash purchase (see the main Terms of Use for the current share). When someone unlocks using Akshar they earned for free through site activity, no real money changed hands for that portion, so no payout is generated from it — because none exists to share. We may change this structure; any change will be reflected in the rates you see in your own earnings and won't be applied retroactively to unlocks that already happened.
Expiration & inactivity
Akshar doesn't currently expire. We reserve the right to introduce an expiration policy for balances on accounts that have been inactive for an extended period (a year or more) in the future — if we do, we'll announce it with reasonable advance notice on the Blog before it takes effect.
Account closure
If your account is deleted — by you or by us for a violation of these terms or the main Terms of Use — any Akshar balance is forfeited and cannot be recovered, refunded, or paid out, including any portion that came from a real-money top-up. This is the same "loyalty points are lost when the account closes" rule most rewards programs use.
Changes to this page
We may update these terms as Akshar and the Digital Card evolve. Material changes will be posted on the Blog. Continuing to use Akshar after a change means you accept the updated terms.
