Terms of Use

By using WritingNepal, you're agreeing to these terms. We've kept it as plain as a legal page can be — if anything's unclear, email us.

Your account

You need to be old enough to legally agree to these terms and to hold money in eSewa/Khalti/your mobile wallet under Nepali law to create an account, and you must provide accurate information when you sign up. You're responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your login details to yourself — tell us right away if you think someone else has access to it. You can pick a Writer, Publisher, or Catcher profile — or set up more than one type of profile if you genuinely do more than one of those things.

Your writing stays yours

Anything you publish — a status update, a Catch, a book listing — remains your property. By posting it, you're giving WritingNepal permission to display it on the site (and promote it, e.g. featuring it on the homepage or in the feed), not ownership of it. You can delete your own writing at any time.

What you can't post

  • Anything that isn't actually yours to publish, unless you have the rights to it
  • Content that harasses, threatens, or targets another person
  • Spam, scams, or anything designed to mislead readers about what they're paying for
  • Videos on a Catch itself — a Catch is writing, with an optional cover photo and images that go with the text. Video has its own place on the platform: see Glimpses below.

We can remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

Glimpses (video posts)

Glimpses are short videos, capped at 60 seconds and 50MB, meant for book reviews, readings, or anything bookish — see our Community Rules for what's on-topic and what isn't. A Glimpse you post stays yours the same way any other writing on the site does (see "Your writing stays yours" above), but because video can't practically be reviewed before it's visible to other readers the way text can, we may remove one without warning if it breaks the rules, rather than only after a notice period.

How long a Glimpse lasts: a Glimpse is shown in the Glimpses row for 24 hours after you post it. After that it no longer appears there, but it can still be opened through a link someone shared or on a wall post it was pushed to. 30 days after posting, it is permanently deleted — the video, its thumbnail, likes, comments and view count — and can't be recovered, by you or by us. If you want to keep a Glimpse, save your own copy of the video before then. You can also delete your own Glimpse yourself at any time before that.

With WN Premium (any tier), your Glimpses are not automatically deleted — they're kept for as long as your Premium stays active (they still leave the Glimpses row after 24 hours, like everyone's). If your Premium ends, the normal 30-day rule applies again after a 30-day grace period counted from the day it ended: at that point, any of your Glimpses more than 30 days old are permanently deleted. You can still delete any Glimpse yourself at any time.

Pay-Per-Post & payments

  • If you set a price on a Catch, that's what readers pay — one time, to unlock that piece permanently.
  • Payments are processed by eSewa, Khalti, or mobile wallet providers directly. WritingNepal doesn't store your card or wallet credentials.
  • Writers keep 90% of what a reader pays directly with real money; WritingNepal keeps a small share to cover payment processing.
  • Unlocks with free Akshar: when a reader unlocks a paid Catch or e-book using free Akshar earned on WritingNepal (not bought with money), no money is paid by the reader. In that case WritingNepal pays the writer a reward from its own funds — currently 20% of the price, dropping to 5% for the rest of the month once a writer has received Rs 150 in such rewards that month. These rates are set by WritingNepal and may change; the rate that applied is shown on every line of your earnings history, and changes never apply to money already earned.
  • Purchases are for personal reading access — you can't resell or redistribute a Catch you've unlocked.
  • Copying paid Catches: you may not post or send the whole or a large part of an unlocked paid Catch anywhere else — social media, blogs, groups or elsewhere. Short quotes with the writer's name and a link are fine. To protect writers, paid Catches carry a faint watermark and an invisible code that identify the reader's account, and long passages don't copy. If we find a paid Catch shared outside WritingNepal, we may suspend the account and remove its Akshar.
  • Sales rankings: by selling your work on WritingNepal (paid Catches, e-books, or books), you agree that we may show your name, profile photo, and links to your profile and your work in public rankings such as "Best-selling writers", together with the number of sales you've made (for example, "12 sales"). We never publicly show how much you earned, your balance, or your payouts. If you'd rather not appear in these rankings, contact us here and we'll remove you from them.
  • Payment disputes, failed transactions, and refund requests are handled case by case — contact us here. We're not able to guarantee a refund once a Catch has been unlocked and read.

Publishing an e-book

Grouping your Catches into an e-book, turning on the immersive reader, and generating a PDF or EPUB copy of it are all features built on top of your own writing — they don't change who owns it. The same "your writing stays yours" principle above applies in full.

  • Before starting a new e-book, you're asked to confirm it's your own original work, or that you hold the rights to publish it. We don't verify this ourselves — you're the one making that representation, and you're responsible for it. If it turns out not to be true, you agree to cover any resulting claim or loss against WritingNepal, same as the Indemnification section below already covers.
  • By creating an e-book, you're giving WritingNepal the additional, limited right to host it, display it through the reader, and generate downloadable PDF/EPUB copies of it on your request — not a transfer of copyright, and not a right for us to publish, sell, or reuse it anywhere else.
  • A copyright page is automatically included with every e-book, naming you as the rights holder. WritingNepal doesn't claim copyright over anything published this way.
  • If you download a PDF or EPUB copy of your own e-book, that file leaves our systems entirely — once it's on your device, we have no further control over it, and how you store or share it afterward is your own responsibility.
  • PDF/EPUB download is currently a WN Premium feature. Full WN Premium terms will be published separately once it's a real paid tier rather than a manually-granted one.

Reporting infringing content

If you believe something published on WritingNepal — a Catch, an e-book, or any part of one — infringes your copyright or someone else's, contact us here with enough detail to identify the content and explain the claim. We'll review it and remove or restrict access to the content while we look into it, and get back to you with the outcome.

Akshar & your WN Digital Card

Akshar is a loyalty/rewards program, not currency, a deposit, or any kind of bank product — it has no cash value and can't be withdrawn or sent outside WritingNepal (members can only gift it to each other, or pay it out through Akshar Offers). Offers from writers, publishers and organisers

Writers, publishers and event organisers can post offers for readers — Akshar, or things like a discount or a signed copy. An offer belongs to the member who made it: they decide what it is, how many people get it, until when and how, and they are responsible for honouring it. WritingNepal only issues and tracks the codes; we're not a party to the offer and can't guarantee it will be honoured. Each code is for one person and works once. We may remove offers that are misleading or not honoured. When someone asks to manage an event as its organiser, we check before approving.

Service availability

We aim to keep the site reliable, but some features (like Catch) run on infrastructure that can occasionally go offline for maintenance or during power interruptions. We're not liable for temporary downtime — your account, drafts, and Akshar balance stay intact regardless.

Limits on our liability

WritingNepal is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted under Nepali law, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site — including lost earnings, lost content, or lost Akshar due to technical failure, third-party payment provider issues, or account suspension for a terms violation. Where liability can't be fully excluded under applicable law, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you've paid us (if any) in the three months before the claim arose.

Indemnification

If your use of WritingNepal — including content you post or a violation of these terms — leads to a claim, loss, or legal dispute involving a third party, you agree to cover reasonable costs and damages we incur as a result, to the extent that dispute was actually caused by your actions rather than ours.

Disputes & governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Nepal. If a dispute comes up, we'd genuinely rather resolve it directly — contact us here first. Any dispute that can't be resolved that way is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nepal.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms, generally with notice where practical — but immediately, without notice, in cases of fraud, abuse of the Akshar system, or content that could cause harm if left up. Either way, any Akshar balance or unlocked Catches tied to a deleted account can't be recovered afterward.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site evolves. We'll note significant changes on the Blog rather than changing things quietly.
