Akshar Terms & Conditions

Last updated: October 2026

This page covers Akshar (अक्षर) and your WN Digital Card specifically. It works alongside — not instead of — our main Terms of Use, which still applies to everything else on WritingNepal.

What Akshar is — and what it isn't

Akshar is a loyalty and rewards program. It is not money, currency, a deposit, a security, a gift card, a prepaid financial product, or any kind of bank or credit product — regardless of how the WN Digital Card looks or what it's called anywhere on the site. The card design (card number, "Card Holder," "Valid Thru") is a visual, playful presentation of your rewards balance, the same way an airline shows a "miles" balance on a card-shaped screen. It does not make Akshar a payment card, and using it does not create any banking, deposit-taking, or e-money relationship between you and WritingNepal.

Specifically, Akshar:

  • Has no cash value and cannot be withdrawn, cashed out, exchanged for money, or transferred to a bank account, mobile wallet, or any other person or account.
  • Can only move to another WritingNepal member in two ways: Gift Akshar and Akshar Offers (see below).
  • Earns no interest and is not held in any kind of account on your behalf outside of WritingNepal's own internal records.
  • Can only be used within WritingNepal, for the specific things listed below — nothing else.

If any part of Nepali law ever treats a rewards program like this one as a regulated financial product regardless of how it's described, we'll adjust the program (including possibly suspending redemption or issuance) to stay compliant, and will post any such change on the Blog.

How you earn Akshar

Akshar is awarded automatically for activity on the site — daily visits, writing Catches, book reviews, being followed, and similar actions, at rates shown on your Digital Card page. We can change what earns Akshar, how much, or remove ways of earning it entirely, at any time and without advance notice — the rates shown are current, not guaranteed to stay the same. Akshar already sitting in your balance when a rate changes is not affected retroactively.

Daily literature question: choosing the right answer to the daily question in the feed earns +5 Akshar, writing your own answer of at least 50 words (or the number shown on the question) earns +10 Akshar, and answering 7 days in a row earns +50 Akshar — for signed-in members only, once per question. An answer padded by repeating the same line earns nothing. We may hide answers that are copied, off-topic or break the Community Rules; Akshar earned by a hidden answer is taken back.

WritingNepal's own offers: the "Akshar Offers" section of WritingNepal's Official Profile lists offers we run ourselves — a daily lucky box (signed-in members can open one a day for a random 5 to 100 Akshar; no payment of any kind is needed), invite a friend (when a friend who joined through your link visits on the required number of different days within the stated period, you both get Akshar; each person can be rewarded only up to a set number of times a month), first-unlock cashback (a share of the price back in Akshar on your very first paid Catch or e-book unlock, once only), festival top-up bonuses (extra Akshar on top-ups made within set dates), and writing challenges (Akshar for a Catch in a set category and above a set length — paid only after our team reads and approves it, once per person per challenge and up to a set number of places; we may decline with a reason, and copied or plagiarised writing is never rewarded). Amounts, conditions and dates are shown on each offer. Akshar from these offers is reward Akshar, not purchased Akshar. Each offer has a monthly budget and pauses until the next month once it's used up, and we can change or end any offer at any time. Akshar gained through self-invites, fake accounts or other abuse is taken back.

Akshar Pratiyogita: prizes and participation Akshar from WritingNepal's writing competitions (Akshar Pratiyogita) are reward Akshar — they unlock Catches but can't be withdrawn as cash. Each competition's own rules, dates and prizes are shown on its page, and WritingNepal's decision is final. Entries that aren't original, are written by AI or break the rules are disqualified, and Akshar received for them is taken back, even if it has already been spent.

We may withhold or reverse Akshar earned through fraud, abuse, fake accounts, automated activity, or any attempt to exploit the reward system rather than genuinely use the site. This includes Akshar already spent — we may deduct the equivalent from your balance or restrict your account.

Purchased Akshar (top-ups)

You can also buy Akshar directly with real money via eSewa, Khalti, or supported mobile wallets, at the Top up page. This is the one place real money is actually involved with Akshar.

  • Payments are processed by eSewa/Khalti/your wallet provider directly — WritingNepal never sees or stores your card or wallet credentials.
  • Once a top-up succeeds and Akshar is added to your balance, it's covered by the same rules as the rest of this page — no cash-out, and it can't be sent outside WritingNepal.
  • Extra Akshar from a festival top-up bonus is reward Akshar, not purchased Akshar — it isn't refundable, and if the top-up is refunded or reversed, its bonus is deducted too.
  • If a top-up payment fails or is reversed by your payment provider after Akshar was already credited, we may deduct the corresponding Akshar from your balance, including into negative territory that has to be resolved before further top-ups or redemptions.
  • Refunds for a top-up are handled case by case — contact us here if a payment went wrong. We don't guarantee refunds once Akshar from a top-up has already been spent.

How you can use Akshar

  • Unlocking a paid Catch or e-book — spend Akshar instead of cash to unlock a writer's paid Catch or e-book chapter, at the rate shown on your Digital Card (currently 100 Akshar = Rs 1).
  • Book credit (Beta) — redeem Akshar at checkout in the store. This feature is Beta and its terms, availability, or exchange rate may change or be discontinued.
  • Gifting it to another member, or funding an Akshar Offer — see the next section.
  • Paying an Akshar Pratiyogita entry fee — if a competition has an entry fee, sending a new entry moves that many Akshar from your account to WritingNepal's official profile. The amount is shown and you agree to it before sending; editing an entry is never charged again. Fees are not refunded unless WritingNepal cancels the competition.

We may add or remove ways to redeem Akshar at any time.

Gift Akshar & Akshar Offers

Gift Akshar: from your Digital Card you can send Akshar from your balance to another WritingNepal member.

  • The minimum gift is 100 Akshar, you can't gift more than your balance, and you can't gift to yourself.
  • The receiver is notified, and your optional note appears in both of your Akshar histories.
  • A gift can't be taken back once sent, and we don't reverse gifts except in cases of fraud or abuse — so check you've picked the right person.
  • A gift uses Akshar you bought first, and that part stays "bought" for the receiver; any remaining part is sent as free Akshar. (This decides what a writer earns when the receiver unlocks with it — see below.)

Akshar Offers: Writers and Publishers can create offers paid from their own Akshar balance (for example, "read this book and send a photo, get 500 Akshar"). The offer's creator — not WritingNepal — reviews each claim and decides whether to approve it. On approval the reward moves from the creator's balance to yours, and, as with gifts, any bought part stays bought. WritingNepal isn't a party to the offer and doesn't guarantee that a claim will be approved.

Gifts and offers may not be used to buy or sell Akshar for money outside WritingNepal. If we find that happening, we may reverse the Akshar involved or restrict the accounts.

Writers & Akshar-funded unlocks

When someone unlocks your paid Catch using Akshar that was purchased with real money (including bought Akshar they received as a gift or offer reward), you're paid a share of that real money, same as a direct cash purchase (currently 90% — see the main Terms of Use). When someone unlocks using Akshar they earned for free through site activity, the reader pays no money, so WritingNepal pays you a reward from its own funds instead — currently 20% of the price, dropping to 5% for the rest of the month once you've received Rs 150 in such rewards that month (see Unlocks with free Akshar). These rates are set by WritingNepal and may change; a change is never applied to money you've already earned, and your earnings history shows which rate applied to each unlock.

Expiration & inactivity

Akshar doesn't currently expire. We reserve the right to introduce an expiration policy for balances on accounts that have been inactive for an extended period (a year or more) in the future — if we do, we'll announce it with reasonable advance notice on the Blog before it takes effect.

Account closure

If your account is deleted — by you or by us for a violation of these terms or the main Terms of Use — any Akshar balance is forfeited and cannot be recovered, refunded, or paid out, including any portion that came from a real-money top-up. This is the same "loyalty points are lost when the account closes" rule most rewards programs use.

Changes to this page

We may update these terms as Akshar and the Digital Card evolve. Material changes will be posted on the Blog. Continuing to use Akshar after a change means you accept the updated terms.
