How WritingNepal works

Everything from creating your account to getting paid for your writing — the whole picture, in one place.

1

Getting started

Three account types, one sign-up flow — pick whichever fits what you actually do.

Writer

Publish poems, essays, and stories under your own name. Best if you write your own original work.

Publisher

List and manage a full catalog of titles. Best for publishing houses with multiple books to track.

Blogger / Catcher

Share quick thoughts and personal writing without managing a formal catalog.

You can always add more later — your profile isn't locked to one role forever. Once you're in, your profile picture, name, and basic info live under "Edit profile" on your profile page.

2

Writing & publishing

Two speeds: a quick thought that takes seconds, or a full piece with real editing tools.

Quick thoughts

Post directly to the Catch feed — a sentence or two on what you're reading. No editing required, visible right away.

Full Catches

Longer essays and stories live in your Catch Cloud — save drafts, schedule a publish date, and decide if it's free or paid before it goes out.

The editor

Bold, italic, headings, quotes, lists, and links — a real toolbar, plus a live word count and read-time estimate as you type.

Drafts, always safe

Nothing publishes until you say so. Save a draft any time and come back later — it'll be waiting in your Catch Cloud.

Scheduling

Pick a future publish date instead of going live immediately — useful if you write in batches.

Books & catalogs

Writers and publishers can list books to the catalog, complete with ratings and reviews from real readers.

3

Getting paid — Pay-Per-Post

Set a one-time price on any Catch. Readers pay once to unlock it — no monthly subscription, no card-on-file. See the full breakdown →

You set the price

Every Catch can be Free or Paid, with a price you choose — right from your Catch Cloud.

Readers pay once

Via eSewa, Khalti, or mobile wallet. Once unlocked, it's theirs to reread any time — no re-buying.

You keep 90%

WritingNepal keeps a small cut to cover payment processing. The rest goes straight to you.

The Free/Paid access toggle in the Catch Cloud table

In your Catch Cloud, every published piece has its own Free/Paid switch — change your mind any time without re-editing the whole post.

The suggested price panel, shown when setting a Catch to Paid

When you switch a piece to Paid, we suggest a price range based on your actual reads and followers — so new writers don't accidentally overprice their first piece.

4

Akshar & your WN Digital Card

Akshar (अक्षर — "letter") is what you earn just for being active on WritingNepal — reading, rating, writing, and more. It's tracked on your WN Digital Card. View your card →

Where to find your Akshar balance, in the top bar of every page

Your balance is one click away from anywhere on the site, in the bar right under the header.

100 Akshar = Rs 1
Most active members reach 10,000 Akshar within 6–7 months.

Two ways to redeem it:

Live
Book credit

Every 100 Akshar = Rs 1 in credit toward any book in the store. Redeem any amount, no minimum.

Beta
Unlock a paid Catch

Have enough Akshar? Redeem it directly to unlock a paid Catch instead of paying cash — same content, paid with points.

The Akshar redemption option on a paywalled Catch

On any paywalled Catch, if your balance covers it, you can unlock with Akshar right alongside the usual payment options.

5

The Catch feed

One feed, everyone's writing — quick thoughts, full Catches, and new book announcements, all in one place.

All Catches

The default view — everything from everyone, newest first.

Following

Just the writers you follow — a quieter, more curated feed.

Paid Catches

Everything you've already unlocked, in one list — easy to find again, no re-buying.

Post-type badges

A colored edge and small icon on each card tell you at a glance: plain status, a full Catch, a book announcement, or a WN Advert.

Liking & commenting

Every Catch has its own comment thread and a like count — real engagement, visible to everyone.

Text only, for now

No photos or videos yet — that's a planned Beta feature. Keeps the feed fast and focused on the writing.

6

Following & saving

Build your own corner of the feed, and keep track of what you want to read later.

Follow a writer

From their profile, or right from the "Writers to follow" list in the Catch sidebar.

Save a Catch

Every Catch has a Save button — it lands in your Reading List on your profile, ready whenever you are.

Reading List vs Saved Catches

Books you're reading show up separately from saved Catches — both live under your profile's Reading List tab.

7

Books & the catalog

Nepal's largest Nepali book catalog, and you can help grow it.

The Add Book link inside the profile dropdown menu

"Add Book" lives right in your profile menu — one of the easiest ways to earn a big chunk of Akshar at once.

Browsing

Search by title, author, publisher, or ISBN — every book has its own full detail page with ratings and reviews.

Adding a book

Know a Nepali title that isn't listed yet? Add it with full details — title, author, genre, cover, and more. Earns 200 Akshar.

Rating & reviewing

Rated books help every future reader — and rating earns you Akshar too.

8

Notifications & messages

Two small icons in the bar under the header — easy to miss until you know they're there.

Messages

The envelope icon — direct messages from other members.

Notifications

The bell icon — likes, comments, new followers, and replies, all in one place.

9

Account & privacy

The basics of keeping your account exactly the way you want it.

Editing your profile

"Edit profile," right next to your name on your own profile page.

Forgot your password?

A link from the Sign In screen sends you a real reset link by email — no need to remember your old one.

Public vs private

Your profile is public by default. Feedback you submit on the Feedback board is public too — we'll always tell you clearly when something is visible to everyone.
