How money moves on WritingNepal — topping up your wallet, unlocking paid Catches, and how Akshar relates to real currency.

Topping up your wallet

You can top up Akshar with real money via eSewa, Khalti, or other supported mobile wallet providers. Payment is processed directly by that provider — we don't see or store your card, bank, or wallet login details ourselves.

Akshar and real currency

Akshar earned through activity (reading, writing, Praise, streaks, etc.) is tracked credit at a fixed rate: 100 AK = Rs 1. This rate applies to redeeming Akshar toward unlocking paid Catches, and won't be changed retroactively on Akshar you've already earned.

Akshar from WritingNepal's own offers — festival top-up bonuses, the daily lucky box, invite a friend and first-unlock cashback — is reward Akshar, not Akshar you paid for. It unlocks paid Catches like any other Akshar, but when it's used, WritingNepal pays the writer at the reward-Akshar rate rather than the 90% share that purchased Akshar earns. If a top-up is refunded, its bonus is removed too.

Paying for a paid Catch

When you unlock a paid Catch, payment comes from your Akshar balance — Akshar you topped up with eSewa, Khalti or a mobile wallet, and/or Akshar you earned on the site. Once unlocked, that content is yours to keep reading — there's no separate recurring charge for it.

Akshar for grammar checks

The grammar check on the Write page includes some free checks each day. After those, if switched on, each extra check costs a set amount of Akshar — you are shown the price and asked first, and Akshar is only taken after a check succeeds. It goes to WritingNepal's own account (it is not writer earnings) and appears in your Akshar history as "Grammar check".

Refunds

Because unlocking a paid Catch gives you immediate, permanent access to that content, purchases are generally non-refundable once unlocked. If something genuinely went wrong on our end — a duplicate charge, a payment that didn't unlock the content it paid for — contact us and we'll make it right.

Akshar Pratiyogita entry fees are also non-refundable — they are given back if WritingNepal cancels the competition.

Writer payouts

Writers earn a share of what readers pay to unlock their paid Catches. Readers who pay with Akshar that was bought with real money (including bought Akshar they received as a gift) earn the writer 90% of the price; readers who unlock with free Akshar rewards earn the writer a smaller reward paid by WritingNepal itself (currently 20% of the price, 5% after Rs 150 in rewards in a month) — your earnings history shows which applied to each sale. The minimum withdrawal is Rs 100 — once your earnings balance reaches Rs 100, you can request a payout to eSewa, Khalti, or a bank account from your wallet (after a one-time identity verification). Requests are processed manually, usually within a few business days.

These payout terms may be updated as this feature matures — we'll always show you the current terms before you cash out, and never change them retroactively on money already earned.

Taxes

Any tax obligations on money you earn through WritingNepal are your own responsibility as the earner, under applicable Nepali law.
