The entire classroom was drenched with happiness, except for one part. The part where a broken soul sat, the part where no one, not even the teachers, dared to look at. His part. Yes, an entire section of the classroom was considered as ‘His part.’ No one dared to sit near him, not because he stank or because he dressed badly. His fashion or smell wasn’t the problem; among everyone in the class, he might have been the most well-dressed person. It wasn’t because of his status or family name; it was because of him.
His name was Eren, but everyone called him the cursed one. There were a lot of rumors surrounding him. He had no friends; no one even wanted to talk with him. All of his past friends either died or met fates worse than death. His own parents had suffered bad luck after he was born. Although his family was rich, they still had to face many difficulties in their day-to-day lives. Accidents were common after his birth. The people around him always got hurt. His parents met the worst fortune when they got into a car crash seven months ago. His mother had died on the spot, and after a few days, his father also died.
Eren normally didn’t socialize with anyone, but after the death of his parents, he began to act more distant. Even though he didn’t socialize previously, he had a sense of curiosity, but it seemed like that also died with his parents. He was a smart student, always getting the perfect score, but now he barely passes. Everybody knew the reason; they had seen it. The bruises he desperately tried to hide had been the clearest part of his life.
After his parents had died, he started to live with his uncle’s family. His uncle was sixty-two years old. He had a heart attack recently, which people associated with Eren. But his uncle was far from being a saint. At the age of forty-four, he had married a sixteen-year-old girl, and they had their first daughter a year later. People often overlook things they don’t want to focus on. Things such as this. His uncle was a pedophile; everybody knew this. For Eren, it felt like a warzone day and night, having to fight just to survive. Perhaps this was why he looked so done with everything.
The bruises on Eren’s arms and legs were frequently ignored. Everyone wanted to focus on his curse. Some individuals took note. However, these individuals were also monsters. Every time Eren went by them, he would frequently hear them whispering. Most of them would say that the cursed one should face his curse as well and that Eren deserved what he was getting.
Anyone who dared to look into his eyes would see nothing but emptiness. There was nothing left in him. No anger, no resentment, no hope, nothing. At this point he had become an emotionless doll. Maybe this is why one of his classmates started to pity him. Out of pity, he offered Eren a hand with his homework. Since Eren was struggling, this unknown classmate of his thought it was a good way to approach the so-called cursed one. While others may have thought it was a hand of friendship, Eren didn’t think of it that way. He had suffered enough to know people aren’t good by default, so he was reluctant to accept, trying to find a way to refuse this guy’s request.
The guy offered a hand and called himself Isaac. Eren was reluctant, you could see it in his eyes. He thought to himself,” why would a random stranger come to me like this?”. It wasn’t fear, but confusion. In his mind he had an image of everyone in the class being this evil force that never liked him and always kept a distance from him. But it wasn’t like he cared, he liked being left alone. For him, all people do is hurt him, he didn’t understand friendship.
Eren wasn’t wrong though, Isaac didn’t offer his hand out of friendship, Isaac pitied him. Eren could clearly see that in his eyes so Eren just choose to walk away. But Isaac didn’t understand that. For Isaac this was rejection, something a tall, blue eyed, black haired, footballer couldn’t understand. Girls wanted to be with him and boys wanted to be him, but Eren didn’t want to do anything with him.
Rejection was new for Isaac, so while feeling this new emotion, he did something he would regret later on. He went to Eren’s uncles place. This single desission changed the lives of many people. Isaac didn’t know what he was getting into when he entered the house. It seemed normal at first, a well organized living area, a open kitchen, a neatly organized kitchen counter and a dinning hall that seemed spotless.
The innocence he had in his eyes while looking around would soon vanish …….
